"Navajo" Crit on Jasmine: by Deanna

Jasmine's piece was a diptych made from, paper, card stock, and wood. In the first panel, she depicted a young Navajo girl in traditional dress which by using Adobe Illustrator. I enjoyed the contrast between the very old fashioned, Native American girl, and her setting--in front of vast, dry land, and her technique of using a technologically advanced system to create it. The girl was almost anachronistic in the project which was very new age and contemporary. The second panel was a set of three abstractions she chose from the first panel painted in different colors. I like the creative and modern spin it took on the project as a whole.

This was very true to Jasmine's style because her work is very cubist and modern, very colorful, and yet organic in material and subject matter.

I would like to see it hung different ways other than side by side, or maybe another panel to tie it all together.

  1. Accurate, clear assessment. (Your also right about the hanging arrangement.)
